Step 1 : Configure LDAP directory

Instructions on the configuration of OpenLDAP are included in the manual. The software has been tested with OpenLDAP on Mac OS X, Linux. Several users have successfully configured it to work with OpenDirectory on Mac OS X Server. LDAP has excellent support and can be configured to provide secure access to the contacts. The option to use SSL to secure the communication between the client and the LDAP directory is also described.

Step 2 : Configure ABxLDAP Preferences

Once the LDAP directory is up and running, ABxLDAP is ready to be configured. Once the connection has been verified and tested all contacts can be transfered to the shared directory. Changes made to the Addressbook are automatically transfered in the background to the directory. Growl integration is available to provide visual user notification of the transfer taking place.

Step 3 : Browsing the LDAP directory

Addressbook4LDAP (v2) provides read access to the LDAP directory. Access is provided to all attributes, including operational ones, such as last udatedOn and updatedBy. It also allows contacts which are no longer required to be deleted.
